It is time to meet our cute little Arwen. She has a special place in my heart, as I handreared her myself. And the fact that she is just a lovable and adorable kitten does a lot too :)
Btw, these pics show you how she has changed, from five weeks to now, 7 months old.
Here I was with three ‘happy’ cats, a cute little household, working at an animal clinic. Does it get any better than that? Well, that depends on who’s telling the story I guess.
There is one side to working at a veterinary clinic which I did not have the stomach for. I had broken the rules for that before, and I was about to do it again. Last time though, I had found a solution for it, this time, I took the problem home….literally.
Can you imagine getting a call from a woman who is completely hysterical, because she found three young kittens, who are borderline dead according to her and does not know what to do with them? And when you explain to her the options (coming to the clinic and paying to put them out of their misery, or bringing them to the shelter), she almost has a fit when hearing the word ‘shelter’. So you tell her to drop by and have them looked at.
This week I have removed 4 or 5 hairballs from that kitten. Well, not literally. The poor thing keeps coughing up more. And she is still coughing.
I brought home a kittymalt yesterday(some siropy paste that glues all the hairs in the stomach together so they can get rid of them easier), and well the result was more hairballs. At least she can cough them up now, instead of being annoyed by them. And she keeps grooming that loooong hair of hers, which of course does not help. Wonder when this will finally be over. How much hair can that little stomach of hers hold, really???
Arwen has not been well the last few days. It seems to be a combo of her disease, a common parasite and hairballs. Since she is semi-longhaired, she has a lot of hair stuck in that tummy of hers. At least, I hope its only that. The problem is that she keeps trying to vomit, which doesnt work, and her immune system is getting stressed, which allows the virus to take advantage, and another parasite kittens and puppies have often is also taking advantage of this and giving her diarrhea.
It seems ridiculous, but it is a never-ending cycle. Right now Im medicating her for the disease, giving her anti-hairball food, and giving her some yoghurt to treat the diarrhea. The only thing under control is the parasite though. She still tries to vomit and seems not to have enough air to breath, when you lift her up. She ll start coughing like crazy.
