Faith's first steps and Arwen's confusion

Well, this evening when I checked, she had finished all her water under the cabinet, and most of the food. However, when looking underneath the cabinet, there was no Faith to be seen.

When I checked the other hide-out in that tiny room, the scratching post on the other side of the room, she was there. With still big eyes but clearly more relaxed posture she stared back at me. I checked the litter tray, though, and there was still nothing in there so... we' ll see :) I took away the lids I used to serve food on, and hope she'll feel comfy enough now to eat during the hours she knows she'll be alone. By now she should know I only check on her in the morning and the evening, which should reassure her.

I will wait till I actually catch her running around, and see her hiding under something because I enter, to start play and fun and bribing to get her to accept humans. For now, I want her to realize she is safe. That is priority number one.

As for our Arwen, she is running around meowing like mad. This morning, when I checked one more time on Faith and took with me her basket (to give back to the person it belonged to), I passed our Arwen who was snoozy on the scratching post. I'd done the same on my way there, and was therefore caught af guard when I was greeted by a very confused Arwen who started hissing at me and running away. When I called her back, she did approach me with a very meowy voice. She didn't want to come all the way though, so when I went up and met her, she only started hissing when I put out my hand, to then run off again.

I was scratching my head..I called her back again, and reluctantly and confused she again meowed while coming towards me. I lifted her up, and put her back on the scratching post. She again hissed at me and ran off. Sharing in her confusion (coz you could tell she herself didn't really know what to do: she wanted to cuddle me to comfort herself and at the same time she hissed the moment I put out my hand), I looked around.

And then, I got it! I had put down the basket to pet her, right behind me. Since Faith had spent a lot of hours in that basket, it was oozing of her scent. Not that I noticed, but Arwen clearly did. The scratching post was too close to the scent, and it clearly confused her and convinced her that the strange cat was in her territory. Seeing as I carried it, and was in the room, I must have had the remnants of the scent on me, confusing her even more. I was both friend and foe: my usual smell means 'mommy' to her, but Faith's scent was on me, which is a definite no no. Smelling this simultaneously completely confused my poor baby.

She even got so bad that she hissed at the Prinny after she had smelled the basket, just checking it out. According to my boyfriend (after I left for work), she has been randomly meowing all day (which is not her thing normally). Poor thing...ah well, she will adapt soon enough. She had the same reaction with Shadow in the beginning and we all know how that panned out ;)
