The Lover. These are the larger-than-life cats. Enjoying life is the game they play. Our Falcor became recently a classic example. Typically, the Lover is a male neutered indoor cat. I have several lover cats besides Falcor though: Arwen and Lulu, and they are female. Picture this: you are home from a long and gruesome day of work, just had supper, and are snuggling up in the couch. Now what is better than having this purring kitty crawling up on the couch with you, getting comfy in your arms and purring all night long right there? Exactly, it is ultimate bliss. And the Lover is just the kitty for the job.
They are easy-going, no-fuss, life’s too short-kind-of-cats. They love cuddling and snuggling and all forms of being petted. On the other hand, they aren’t demanding at all. They will gladly lie on the couch while you are running around doing whatever, waiting patiently for you to come and sit beside them. They are the ultimate lap-cats and they are too adorable for words.
So what is the downside? They tend to be prone to laziness and obesity. You have to encourage them to play to keep them in shape and stop them from being couch-potatoes. They are also more inclined to constantly eat, just for the gratification of it. They will also potentially purr even when they are sick to reassure themselves. And they can be clingy. Though not as in your face as the Diva, they tend to follow you everywhere. Their behavior sometimes reminds me of a helpless little baby, and although it can be adorable, it sometimes makes me roll my eyes.
Why get one? Because they make grand companion cats. They are low-maintenance, cuddlicious, and easy-going. They are the ultimate de-stressor kitties. Your stress will melt away coming home to their adorable face ;)
How do you recognize them? Well, again, it is hard to see with kittens (they tend to be go-go cats in the beginning). But the cat that does not appear pushy yet is very happy and relaxed to come and steal a cuddle will be a safe bet. Kittens can become Lovers after their go-go stage and if easy-going as a kitten and kept indoors is most likely to become a Lover (especially if you get a male one to then neuter).
