In this part we will take a closer look at the five most common personalities amongst cats. This is clearly a generalization but it will give you an idea of what is out there, and therefore it will help you decide what will compliment your lifestyle and own personality. This part will also tie in with all the other parts. What do I mean by that? Well, the five personalities are: Diva, Boss, Scaredy Cat, Lover and Go-Go Cat. And for instance, females will more likely be Divas, indoor cats are prone to being Lovers, kittens are often Go-Go cats etc. Explanation will follow ;).
With breeds, you will often find that a certain breed often has a predisposition towards certain characteristics. That does not mean those individual cats will not have their own personalities. But it is comparable to say the Black hip-hop culture ;) Though there are many different personalities in the black hip-hop community, they certainly share several characteristics, enough to generalize them. So to a certain extent, this article will also benefit those who are deciding on a breed.
So lets take a closer look at these intriguing personalities:
As you can see cats are incredibly complex and genuinely interesting creatures. And all have their advantages as well as disadvantages. Now it is up to you to decide which kind of kitty will suit you. Whom will compliment your life best, and which one will be best served by what you can offer. The following might give you a clue as to which kitty would suit you.
Big families with children and a dog should take a look at the Go-Go cat and the Lover cat, since those will likely suit their family best. Stay away from Divas as they will be fussy and stressed, as well as a Boss cat. He will not like those kids chasing him. Scaredy cats will suffer too much stress from the noise and ruckus the kids will make.
People who need cuddly affection from their cat, and have a lot of time best take a look at the Diva and the Lover, and possibly, if they have a lot of patience and love a challenge, the Scaredy cat. Although the Boss can be loving, it is not guaranteed and it will be on his terms. And the Go-Go cat will be all too happy if you play with him, but sitting still to be cuddly is not on his agenda.
People who aren’t much home, but just want something to come home to, need to first of all consider two kitties, and might want to take a look at the Boss and the Scaredy cat(just do not combine the two, otherwise the Scaredy cat WILL be bullied by the Boss!) . If the cat can go outside, the Go-Go cat might be your thing too. Do not get a Lover and definitely not a Diva, they will drive you mad in the evening, when you do get home, and possibly be unhappy.
Elderly people will be better of with an elderly cat who doesn’t kick up too much fuss, so check out the Scaredy cat and the Lover. Go-Go cats are a definity no-no. The Diva might suit you as well, if you like a cat that demands attention. The Boss might work, if you don’t mind the cat’s dominant character.
People who enjoy an intense bond with their pet are best of with a Diva or a Lover. The Boss, as well as the Go-Go cat will be a disappointment on this area, since they have too much to do on their own. The Scaredy cat is a wild card on this matter. Winning her trust might give you an incredibly close bond, however that same fear which she needs to overcome may be an obstacle as well.
So, this concludes the last part of the article ‘Which kitty is right for you?”. Hopefully you can make an educated decision on which kitty suits you and your lifestyle. This way you and the kitty will be happy with the arrangement and there will be no need for tears when you bring him to the shelter and traumatize him in the process.
